POP email

This is the main form of email used in business. With this email system, your computer can be scheduled to automatically receive mail when it arrives. Your computer will regularly check to see if new mail has arrived and download it to your computer.

The received email messages can then be stored in a selection of folders which you can refer back to as required. There is no limit to the number of emails which can be stored in this way. Messages which are sent can also be stored for your records.

The disadvantage of this email system is that it is not so easy to read your emails from another location or on another computer

Webmail

Webmail is a system where you have to actively look on a website to see if you have any mail waiting for you. If someone sends you an email, you will only be aware of it when you logon to your mail site and check your mail. The received messages are not stored on your own computer unless you specifically download them.

One disadvantage of this system is that there is generally a limit to the size of your mailbox and when it becomes full, it will stop receiving mail. However, one advantage  is that you can check your mail from any computer connected to the internet
